ParticipantThanks Wristpin. That could well be the problem now you mention it. Strangely though, I have another ATCO with Villiers 2T engine that also has 2 filters. The second one that is a red B&S one though, whereas the one on the A98 is one of those clear ones with a little paper filter inside and is probably more restrictive.

ParticipantCharlie, have just renewed by Paypal. However, as P/P account is in my wife’s name you may not tie it up with me. Her name is Carole.

ParticipantJim, A 6.5Hp “Villiers” (Honda GX200 copy) will set you back £125.00. As you know, I have a 5.5Hp version on my Wizard and so far it has been fine. Can PM you details if wanted.

ParticipantNo need to book in, it’s a “run wot ya brung” week-end. The more varied the machinery the better.
However, once you have ploughed be prepared for someone else (probably me) to follow on and rotovate your nicely done furrows !

ParticipantOn the subject of “Chondas” I have a Chinese Honda copy on my Wizard Rotovator. It’s been on about three years now and is fine. In fairness though, it only gets used now and again at low revs !
If I were using a machine day in day out I’d fit a genuine Honda—–March 5, 2017 at 8:36 am #24661sidevalve44
ParticipantI think it’s down to personal choice really and whether you are trying to be 100% original or not.
Personally, I would go for gloss or perhaps semi gloss. My own Howard 200 I painted in gloss and it is quite shiny.

ParticipantAgriline sell Howard Orange paint. I bought a litre a couple of years ago, it cost about £18.00 then.

ParticipantComing on nicely. How I envy you your workshop ! We have no rear access and only a small shed so, I have to content myself with things small enough to carry through the house !

ParticipantIf greasing it all up doesn’t work I’ll remove the pump and strip. Will photograph as well.
Unfortunately, when I was re-building it, I could find absolutely nothing on the Web or anywhere (even on here) of a technical nature about Pegson Marlow pumps. I guess, being over 50 years old years old (1960) it is unlikely I would !
The only seal on the shaft was the rubber one that squashed up against the crankcase and I could find no evidence that the pump had ever been dismantled before and a seal “lost”. The tab washer on the impeller was intact.

ParticipantThanks Hillsider.
When I stripped and rebuilt the pump there was nothing even remotely resembling what you are describing inside it I’m afraid ! It all seemed very basic but, worked well up to recently.
I think I’ll try greasing the threads, refilling the shaft greaser and giving it a few turns (a well greased shaft seems to act as a kind of seal) and taking it from there. If that fails, then it’s back to the workshop !

ParticipantAre you bringing it to Lotmead again this year ?
A really impressive tool !

ParticipantThanks for the suggestions.
The total lift is only about 1 metre or so, well within its capabilities. The hose is very rigid (too rigid really, makes fitting it very difficult), no problems there. However, the Union is made of nylon and has begun to get a bit worn. Water was dripping out past the threads.
As far as I can remember, there is no gland seal as such although there was a rubber seal that fitted on the outside of the engine crankcase and was compressed when the pump body was bolted up onto the engine body.
When I got the pump, a previous owner had fitted 1.1/2′ to 3/4″ reducers which I removed.
Beginning to think that perhaps I should have left them !January 28, 2017 at 5:35 pm #24220sidevalve44
ParticipantWhat a good find ! Not bad condition, especially as it was Free !

ParticipantHi Owen,
Yes, It’s done about 20 hrs since fitting and has been excellent. Now it is properly run-in, it pulls like a steam train !

ParticipantThanks wristpin. I have just looked on Briggsbits site again and noticed that a tool very similar to yours is still available. It would seem I should have ordered both tools; one to dismantle and one to put it back together again !
As I’ve managed to dismantle them I won’t be needing one straight away but, will certainly add one to my tool-kit in due course.
