    My 1945 MG2 has traces of green paint under the blue on the engine sump. I had assumed that this might have been a war time economy, but perhaps it was Ransomes practice to use green as an undercoat?

    Your MG5 is looking good, Neil Jarret is the best source of parts in this country email njarrett at btinternet.com , he is on this forum as ransome256

    Dave Clark would like the serial no for the MG register, have a look at the Survivors section of this website.

    Thanks to expeatfarmer I now know the serial no of my MG2 it’s 1741 making it a 1945 machine,
    the photo method of enhancing the number worked well

    Thankyou for the replies, I will have a go at adjusting the contrast etc. on a photo. The underside of the gearbox cover was blank.

    Can you give any more info about these MG2s?

    (I believe mine spent most of its life in Essex but i don’t know its serial no.)

    Try Hawk Fasteners in Middlesborough or Namrick in Hove. I bought 3/4″ Whit bolts at Alton Bolt and Tool recently, all have web sites.
