charlieKeymasterJohn, your renewal was received on 31st Jan 2015 ( renewal notices went out in Nov 2014 and membership year ends 31st Dec) and was processed on 7th Feb, insurance card is in the post, I cannot be responsible for any delays caused by Royal Mail. If you check your PayPal or bank card you should see that the money has been taken out.
A renewal reminder will be sent in Feb to any members that have still not renewed. Paid up members will get the Feb issue of The Cultivator.February 12, 2015 at 2:31 pm #11663

charlieKeymasterPhil, thanks for the warning and glad to know you will be OK. I am always wary of any electric shock. Another danger of getting a shock is the instinctive reaction to move hand or whatever away from source of shock. As an ex BT engineer a common cause of injury was the tags of terminal blocks at telephone exchange. Working on one terminal block and getting a shock (only 75v ringing current) would result in hand flying back into tags of adjoining block, ouch. See photo for example of situation.

charlieKeymasterOne observation, it does not appear to be intended for heavy work. The metal between handle and body of fork seems rather light. Could the two loops be used as a leverage point?

charlieKeymasterThe questions has been raised before. Whilst a number of members do have machines requiring RTA cover we also have members that do not need the public liability cover. The existing insurance makes up only 10% of membership fee. To add RTA cover would add a huge increase. There would also be the complexity of administration as each members machine requiring RTA cover would need recording and machine specific insurance documentation issued. I am not aware of any club offering RTA (show and rally) cover as part of membership.

charlieKeymasterFollowing changes to the Road Traffic Act a few years ago, places such as showground and rally fields became ‘public places’ and any motor vehicle requires RTA cover, even if static. The vehicle does not need to be registered, taxed or MOT’d, insuranace can be issued based on machine serial number rather than registration number. The cover does not extend to use on public highway. Beware some insurers are not fully switched on and may insist vehicle is taxed etc, they are wrong.

charlieKeymasterWhat are you displaying? Club insurance provides public liability cover, but does not cover ride on machines eg Ransmomes MG, Wheel Horse etc as these need RTA cover, but do not need tax or registration.
