The questions has been raised before. Whilst a number of members do have machines requiring RTA cover we also have members that do not need the public liability cover. The existing insurance makes up only 10% of membership fee. To add RTA cover would add a huge increase. There would also be the complexity of administration as each members machine requiring RTA cover would need recording and machine specific insurance documentation issued. I am not aware of any club offering RTA (show and rally) cover as part of membership.

Following changes to the Road Traffic Act a few years ago, places such as showground and rally fields became ‘public places’ and any motor vehicle requires RTA cover, even if static. The vehicle does not need to be registered, taxed or MOT’d, insuranace can be issued based on machine serial number rather than registration number. The cover does not extend to use on public highway. Beware some insurers are not fully switched on and may insist vehicle is taxed etc, they are wrong.

What are you displaying? Club insurance provides public liability cover, but does not cover ride on machines eg Ransmomes MG, Wheel Horse etc as these need RTA cover, but do not need tax or registration.

Not something I have ever taken apart so far. I assume you need to get it apart to replace worn bushes. Rather than big hammer I think it would be far safer to support side of casing and use a press to push the shaft out, if that is how it comes out. I think I have a spare drive assembly lying around, I will drag it into the workshop and see if I can work out how it should be removed.
Unless someone else knows the answer.
It might be worth asking on the SIMAR website forum.

A good tidy find, just shows you never know what is going to turn almost on your doorstep.

I have seen another film with a Rototiller doing the same unmanned trick, all in the good old days before Health & Safety.

Some great footage. Now who can list all the different machines shown?

Ivan thanks for photos. I remember my father having one of those, I also remember one in the auction at Tractor World a couple of years ago.

Advert from 1953 issue of The Smallholder magazine showing Troy. I think this topic just shows the wealth of information held by VHGMC members.

I asked the Gloucestershire Society for Industrial Archaeology and they had not heard of Hortag. I am following up their suggestion of a request for information via the Brimscombe parish newsletter.
