Hi Charlie. I assume you mean the seal in the pump because of course there are seals also in the stop valve that control the flow of paraffin to the coil. I’ll go and take some photos and forward to you. Have you managed to dismantle the wand at all ? Still unsure how you get a replacement wick in one of these.
PS do you own a Sheen X300/X500…[Read more]

Hi Brian, Thanks for your reply and good to hear you got yours working.
“does it hold pressure when pumped up with paraffin in it?” – No, because the seal has not only perished but is completely missing. Any chance of picture of what it should look like please? Thanks. -

Hi Charlie. Well I picked up my flamewand a couple of months ago and have managed to get it working. So I’m sure you know to pump the wand to build pressure ; check that you have pressure by briefly opening the flow valve to check liquid paraffin spurts out of the burner jet before closing. This also primes the vaporising coil with fuel. Then poor…[Read more]

Please does anyone know where I could source a replacement point/share for a Wright and Son hand pulled plough. They were originally made in Holbeach Lincs around 50 -75 years ago. Thank you

I too have a Sheen Flame Wand which is in need of some TLC. I contacted Sheen in 2021 and received the following response,
“… unfortunately we no longer support the flamewand. Sadly it is obsolete having not been made for over 35 Years.”If anyone has a link to where spares and the operating instructions can be found, please let me know.

Thanks for getting back to me! It’s good to know that she found a good home, my brother lives in Nottingham so if there’s any way to get Tom’s address I would really appreciate it.
I suspect it was the same tractor in the photograph. The hire boats were stored in the winter about 100 yards from where you collected the tractor from. I could…[Read more] -

Yes when I was younger and obsessed in all things OTA I did purchase a OTA tractor from a lovely chap on the Isle of Arran, going up and down in one day. The Ferry was caught in a violent storm on the return trip and it was alarming to see a lorry on the vehicle deck next to us rise up with the pitching of the deck. Unable to return to Ardrossan…[Read more]

Hi – Newbie here!
Hope this is the right place to post a request for ID help for a vintage electric strimmer.
I’ve just inherited a mains electric strimmer from a newly deceased relative and it is in good working order, but has run out of the plastic strimming strip. Being new to the world of strimmers, I thought it could just be a case of…[Read more] -

Hello from Sydney (Australia). I just picked a nice little Ransomes MG5 with cultivator. It came from a deceased estate and had been sitting for 17 years after the owner had done a full nut and bolt restoration. Its Serial number 5828 which dates it 1951 as far as I can ascertain. It is missing the draw bar and support. Would anybody have a…[Read more]

I am not aware of any Uni-Horse clubs or groups.
There is the Lea-Francis Owners Club, which mentions the Uni-Horse, but the club generally seems more geared towards the cars that were made.

I hope you manage to find a tractor and a plough to continue your ploughing.

Grahame, I have had severals things to make conversions for and with parallel inner up to a shoulder and tapered outer and split to work, that could be to save a nasty accident. if working in opposite with tapered inner and keyed the outer but if you split the bush it works even better as long as the driven part has a good strong boss. On some…[Read more]

I did a search and found some taper adaptors, but none fitted. I need 22.5mm ID for the largest hole, going down a 1:5 taper over 23mm. The easiest solution is to get something turned. Am not going to get into a ding dong battle over taper adaptor suppliers. I believe this forum is for constructive comments only.

I was given a fingerbar mower with a Lombardini IM 250 on it. Something had broken in the gearbox, it would have required expensive machining to fix it, so I took off the parts I wanted and scrapped the rest. The engine ran beautifully, I still have it and at 6.5hp I may fit it to another machine one day. The only downside is the drive shaft is…[Read more]
