Hi all hope we are well I have a charging problem with my Ransomes motor triple. Up until recently it’s been running great but it’s no longer charging it’s battery. It has a twin cylinder Kubota diesel I believe it’s a z600. I have checked the battery while the engine is running and it’s showing the same as when it’s not running so would suggest…[Read more]

Hi, new to this group, I have a Nickerson Turfmaster T84, been using it since last year but wanted to do some maintenance on it, does anyone know anything about where I can find parts like chain sprockets to drive the side cutting units please? The one fitted works but it’s looking a little worn
Many thanks -

I presume that you have the chain off the machine ? So just take it to a bearing and transmission factor who will measure it up and supply the correct link. Possibly the chain is worn and it may be the time to renew it.

Hi all. New to the forum love everything shay but just acquired a Howard Gem with the 810 twin, it runs ok but my problem is with the drive chain to the rotors. Can anyone tell me the chain size please. It has a wrong link in it which causes it to jump over the drive sprocket. Only thing I can see on chain is fenner 6r (maybe) eyes aren’t so good…[Read more]

Guaranteed after shot blasting you will find more holes, its time to fabricate a new tank, as cost over time filling holes it will be a lot cheaper!

Soldering is best but you have to get it really clean first then once the holes are covered/filled coat the inside with POR15 I have used it many times on all sorts of fuel tanks and it is brilliant stuff.
You could clean it up, fill the holes with filler of your choice then POR15 inside. -

I hadn’t heard of ABC engines so looked them up. Sources say that a company called A.B.C. Motors Ltd, London, were started in 1912 and was known for aircraft engines including vee, vertical and radial types.
This reminded me about Wankel rotary engines used on a few mower brands including Wolf.
Indeed, Drayton engines. And also Blackburne.

My memory is suffering on this, but the ones we had in the eighties had Kohler 8 hp engines on them. The cutting decks had two styles of connection between the blade gearboxes, the later one was if I remember correctly was much simpler, I think it used a double chain each side to transmit the drive. I cannot remember much more, except they were…[Read more]

That is an intriguing item!
There’s a TV show called ‘Would I lie to you?’, and on that theme there could be some interesting ideas as to what this mushroom shaped copper item is… so could it be for catching earwigs much like putting an upside down plant pot full of straw at the top of a cane. Here though, a small pot of straw would be put in…[Read more]

Ok this is made from copper, the height is 15 inches, the stem is 5 inches diameter. this is from the late Victorian period to the Edwardian period. It was commonly used in Horticulture.
So what is it and what was it used for?
The answer will come later on next week, have fun Andrew -

The Bux120 is fixed timing , flywheel is held in place with a cotter type pin/bolt , very similar style as a bycycle crank cotter pin.

In the past I have used Slosh, a tank sealant that forms a hard coating on the inside of the tank. So far no problems despite leaving fuel in the tank for prolonged periods. If you have pinholes in the tank they are best taped over with masking tape beforehand, then once the two-part mixture has hardened inside the tank you can flat it off and it…[Read more]

Blackburne engines were used in some early machinery- my own Trusty 220 (the 45th production machine) has a Blackburne engine. This manufacturer had no connection at all with Blackburn Aircraft Ltd as you can probably guess from the spelling.
Blackburne engines were produced by a company called Burney and Blackburne who were based originally near…[Read more]
