vhgmcbuddyMemberManaged to remove the jets using a radiator key. Just in case anyone needs to know in the future, the pilot jet is size 40 and the main jet size 70.

vhgmcbuddyMembercould anyone tell me how to check the engine oil in a mg5 crawler sturmley archer dry sump engine
thanks from DickyJune 18, 2014 at 6:29 pm #8704
vhgmcbuddyMemberI just looked at the picture – it’s nothing to do with the air filter is it? Should it be shut to slow the engine speed?

vhgmcbuddyMemberI’m still struggling with this blessed throttle. As you can see in my photo I have a spring Attached now. The problem is that the engine is just over reving – if I slacken the cable or tension the spring it still over runs. If I pull the brass lever down the engine speed drops. This suggests that there should be tension pulling the lever away and the spring and cable is keeping the engine speed up.
I’m sure that it is something simple that I just don’t get but all suggestions are welcomed.

vhgmcbuddyMemberthank you hillsider and charlie.
hillsider, My Roper 14 is as shown on page 7 of the catalogue you kindly attached (minus the blonde woman). I will only be able to ckeck the engine details early July when I get back and will get back to you. Once more many thanks.
charlie, I will use shrinkpic and add my pictures. Thanks to both again.June 17, 2014 at 5:37 pm #8693
vhgmcbuddyMemberThank you, the pics are a great help. Do I have to put a lead substitute additive in the petrol and what is the modern equivalent oil for the sump?

vhgmcbuddyMemberThanks for the offer Andy. If the repair attempt fails, I shall be in touch.
I haven’t officially started rebuilding the Simar yet, as I am still trying to finish my Trusty first, but it is very difficult to not get distracted by other things!!!

vhgmcbuddyMemberSeems Alan wasn’t interested in the 34 Wheelhorse’s on show, then I expect they all look the same to him

vhgmcbuddyMemberI picked up this Ransomes Lawn Edger at an auction last week with 2 Ransomes mowers (a 10″ Cub and a 14″ Ball Bearing) and a Terrex Spade with wooden Handles.
The Lawn edger was rusted & seized solid so I stripped & renovated it (NOT restored) & got it going a treat; the blades spin like billio!
Its missing a guard I believe but what a wonderful bit of kit; am going to take it to the allotment to test tomorrow.June 16, 2014 at 11:04 am #8671
vhgmcbuddyMemberThanks for the info chaps.
Think you are right about the jet Charlie. Will attempt a repair. If I can’t straighten out the damage, I might try either bonding/soldering a suitable piece of tube in place after cutting off the damaged portion.

vhgmcbuddyMemberQuick thought !! is the carb a two bolt flange type? as my one does not bolt it just slides on and has a jubilee type clamp to hold it on with.
