vhgmcbuddyMemberThanks for the advise chaps, I must admit I had,nt thought of the potential transmission problems, I like the rotervator idea, but it looks very expensive bit of kit, back to the drawing board i think!.

vhgmcbuddyMemberYou don’t need much pressure at all when levering, that’s how I’ve done a few anyway, otherwise, make up a plate with 3 holes, weld a nut into the centre one, and thread some bolts into the holes in the flywheel, then you’ve got a crude puller.
The starter pulley should just unthread, I find the nylon cord down the plug hole the safest way to lock the engine. When I’ve had really tight ones in the past I’ve had to resort to removing the head and placing a block of wood on the top of the piston, then temporally refit the head.
I’ve had a couple of the coils fail on me on this engine, and a couple of dicky carbs, but apart from that they are almost bomb proof. I can’t believe how thick the castings on the crankcase are, you certainly wouldn’t see engines like this nowadays.February 21, 2016 at 8:32 pm #19714

vhgmcbuddyMemberTo lock the engine I find some starter cord down the plug hole is very effective, being nylon it won’t do any harm to the internals.from memory there is some holes threaded in the flywheel under the plate under the starter pulley to make up a puller, however last time after undoing the pulley I levered the flywheel with a pinch bar in line with the key way, placed a block of wood on the end of the crank and gave it an almighty clonck a couple of times. The shock should be enough to bounce the flywheel off.

vhgmcbuddyMemberA great shame it’s not undercover, but does look a nice resto of a late 70’s super gem judging by the air cleaner and exhaust.

vhgmcbuddyMemberWhat sticks in my craw, is the total lack of interest from the Police, in this village we used to have two police houses and got used to seeing the police on patrol around the villages, about twenty years ago they demolished the houses and built a brand new Police station complete with reception desk and cells, since then none of us have ever seen a policeman,! the place is used as a a half way house for the nearby M40 patrols, it is a Joke, when you visit this place, you can only go at certain times, as the desk has to be manned by a volunteer from the village! if you report a crime, they tell you to ring 101 when you get a recording from the chief Constable explaining they are very busy! does anyone know what they do?

vhgmcbuddyMemberA good suggestion Charlie however the only problem is we have a high turn over of machines that then become someone else property so DNA type marking is not very practical.
At the time I said to the copper was that by using his logic I could steal a brand new car, remove the chasis number and reg plates then they wouldn’t touch me? He didn’t have an answer for that.February 16, 2016 at 7:34 am #19594
vhgmcbuddyMemberI can totally sympathise with you. At work we were not touched for 13years then in the space of 18 months the pikeys came in 5 times. It was one of the contributing factors to moving. There’s now a security gate and fence, followed by a heavy duty security grill over the outside door. All other entrances have a roller shutter door dead locked inside them plus a few other surprises waiting for them which I won’t in to details on an open forum. The police never want to know, even when one of the stolen items came in for repair later, they said because the serial numbers had been removed they couldn’t prove it was ours?!? Be warned I have also seen another machine that was stolen from us on ebay. Again the police said they couldn’t do anything.
