ParticipantYes, he had an “e”. I’ve found a clip on that well known video chammel under the heading

ParticipantChris, they’re not related so far as I know, as you say it is a common name in these parts. Derek Fiske I think was Fiske with an “e”. He was a great local racer from Diss, one of my favourites in the 60’s.

ParticipantHi Chris
I think its the original paint, but I’m not sure. There’s no overspray on the model and other plaques, but it just seems to good to be true that it could look like that after 86 years! And there’s no sign of any decal on the miller cover, suggesting it might have been painted over, but then again I don’t know if it had one like the 56 does. I agree with you, I like them to look as they were at the end of their real working days rather than being restored, and you don’t have to feel bad about using them for working events as there’s no new paint to worry about marking!July 24, 2016 at 8:41 pm #21567roatavator
ParticipantYes, its amazing what you can discover on there. Good to look at in winter when its too cold to be in the shed!

ParticipantAre you any further on now, Charlie, or is it on hold until the new building is up?

ParticipantHope to see you both there!
Andy, Jack Frost, Ashby definitely rings a bell, perhaps I’ve seen it on the truck. Wouldn’t be surprising as I lived at the time in Framingham Pigot, Jack had his market garden there as did Henry, George had his in Bramerton so we were very local to you. (got it wrong in the previous post).
I’m going to Little Ellingham in August, if you’re there look me up (you’ve only got to listen out for a SIMAR which shouldn’t be too difficult!)July 24, 2016 at 5:00 pm #21560roatavator
ParticipantAndy.
Thanks, small world!
There were 3 Fisk brothers, my father worked for Jack, whose real name was Arthur. His brothers also had market gardens, one was George, who had a market garden in the same village; in the neighbouring village there was Henry (who I think might also have been known as Harry).
Yes, of course, in the very old days it was the cattlemarket site in the middle of the city (as a young girl my wife Fiona loved going to Norwich on a Saturday to see the cattle at the auction). The site now of Castle Mall shopping mall. By the time the markets moved to Harford Bridges this way of living was already in decline (as Jack says in the newspaper article).
Do you have any machines in your collection that belonged to your father (or even the Morris?)
What was your father’s name, there’s a (very) slim chance I might remember it, and where was his market garden?

ParticipantNo Dave, quite agree. As someone who has forgotten to put the miller drive in neutral when reversing, its definitely something you only do once in a lifetime!

ParticipantI think, from my very rusty old memeory, that the only 56’s I’ve seen with 2 tanks have had the arrangement your TVO instructions show, Charlie. Suggesting it was only ever an optional extra for the 56, whereas I think all the A5’s I’ve seen pics of have had the 2 combined tanks in the single manufactured assembly, suggesting all were like this with no option.

ParticipantHi Andy
I’m sure I’ve seen 56’s with 2 tanks, but I think 1 tank was more common. I’ve looked on the French site, there doesn’t seem to be any specific info relating to tanks on the 56, perhaps Charlie will know.July 17, 2016 at 10:18 am #21473roatavator
ParticipantSorry Dave, I should have said “Anyone apart from Dave…” as I knew you’d be there!

ParticipantHi Andy
Its got 2 tanks. The A5 manual (in English!) which I downloaded from the French site says the machines were supplied with 3 carb needles, one for petrol (or benzol), one for alcohol (!) and one for paraffin. I’ve just trawled a few images of A5’s and every one I can find has 2 tanks. I think 2 tanks were standard, have you seen one without?Peter

ParticipantIn talking to our French friends on the SIMAR site, they said the A5 is pretty rare on the continent, and they thought more were sold over here. Got me wondering, who else out there has got one? (There are one or two I know about, but no more than that.)

ParticipantDave, there’s a fighting chance I’ll be able to make it one of the two days, don’t know which one yet. Do I have to register or can I just turn up?
PeterJuly 9, 2016 at 8:31 am #21403roatavator
ParticipantYou have made some excellent choices. I mean both the SIMARS and the wife!
