I believe that the mower is a later Qualcast 16 with Villiers midget engine.
In fortunately there is some rot through the rear roller, not 100% sure if I could mig fill it or patch and fill. I’m waiting for the new shed to be build, old one almost demolished and I can get it on dry ground, for the time being it’s staying in the wheel barrow.

Re the Ajax dose anyone know what size the frame to name plate and handle bolts are and a supplier?

    Kind regards

    Mike

Thank you, the lady I bought the Howard off is disposing of her father’s collection and had one and I had never seen one before. I am helping her identify what some of the items are so she can get fair prices.

I too have just got a bullfinch missing the elbow and drive belt and also leaking at the seals. Could anyone point me the direction of a manual? The Howard site throws up an error if you get past the safety warning. Also what is the rectangular loop near the engagement lever?

Not sure if it will help but here is a link to one of my posts and some photos of my carb, don’t know how else to share the link other than copy and past web address

    New Rotavator Mountfield M1 probably

I don’t have access to my machines for the foreseeable future (sperated and locked out my home) but I have digital manuals etc if you require.

I received mine along with my membership pack and an Oct issue the other day just finished reading both issues, I think the editor, Charlie and all the members have done a fantastic job of getting so much interesting content in during such a poor year for our hobby / passion, so thank you all and happy and more useful new year.

Take care and stay safe, Mike and family.

Kenny, Try servicing the carb, then check and clean fuel tank and replace fuel line.
Don’t forget to service the air filter too.

Charlie, thanks keep forgetting to adjust my phone camera.

Andrew, I found someone selling several manuals and posters etc for various machinery but only had major, minorett and mk2 tractors but not sure if it’s the same person.

I’m currently refurbishing a husqvara mower then I start disassembling the Mountfield M1 in between decorating for swmbo lol 😂 😂

Thanks Rollo, It’s even more vintage than I thought. Now my garage roof is finally fixed making room, once I have done so I will take some more photos I can see that it’s missing the depth bar so will have to fabricate one. there is a lot of surface rust thankfully no holes and only a little in the tank last time it was fired was about 40 years ago I was told it always had a weak spark so looks like I will be sending the magneto off for a rebuild.
looking on this site and the rest of the net I can’t find any reference to the mower / flayer and haven’t worked out where the belt goes. She is a heavy beast so struggling to get it out of my car on my own hopefully mife wife mobility scooter ramp will over come.

    HI Ray,

Thank you for your advice I have managed to clean the bearings enough to read the following stamped on the seal/bearing ENGLAND WESTON W 105010045 RF .6 (BB in subscript) Google brings up nothing except some rod end bearings which look wrong.
Do I need to split the gear housing to remove the bearings?
I’m itching to start stripping this lovely old machine down but waiting on my landlord to fix a my leaking garage roof as I don’t have enough room in my woodwork shop. It’s only been over a year!!!! I have a tarp over everything inside and periodically run the water off. It’s too cold and wet to be working outside on restoration like this and I need her ready for February to get my deep bed made.

Thanks again , take care and stay safe, Mike
