Alan, thanks for all the detective work, it helps tell us more about the company.

Thank you for all the suggestions and ideas. I think I will have to put an article in The Cultivator to see if that brings anything new.

Thanks for looking Alan. Information about the Universal does seem a bit thin on the ground. I have a sales leaflet for the two way machine.

I recently paid £35 each for a pair of 4.00×8 at my local tyre fitters.

The pot washer is one of many horticultural related machines made and sold by Geo Monro. I have never seen one.
The other machine according to 50 Years of Garden Machinery is a Commando power driven hoe, see page 75. Made by Power Hoes in the early 1950’s.

Jim, the guy on the quad bike was telling me he still uses two old brush seeders to plant stuff but gets gaps due to brushes having lost some brisltes. He might be able to get new brushes from this hardware shop in Holbeach, I am sure they would do mail order if they have what he needs. Could you please pass this information to him.

Trying to get a new spark plug I contacted The Green Spark Plug Company. The plug I have is an old Wipac F20 with 22mm thread. Steve from Green Spark Plug Co suggested JAP only used 14mm and 18mm plugs. This supports the suggestions that it is not a JAP and may well be Emery’s own.

I took the Emery to the Lotmead event and one thought was it could be a motorcycle engine, but no suggestions as to make.

SIMAR 50 and 56 loaded up. If Tom is bringing his 56 as well it might be a good idea if everyone brings ear plugs!!!!

According to 70 Years of Garden Machinery it was a JAP engine, 2 1/2 or 3hp. Universal model was shown at 1950 Royal Smithfield Show, cost £85.

Chris, now I have had a second look I agree with you, it was the wheels that threw me off the scent.
