Have you actually removed the rings and measured the gap in the bore. I’m a great fan of the F15 , and have one on a Howard Bantam , and find it easily out performs the original Mk15.
I wouldn;t have thought it was guide problems , as you have told us of the oil on the piston , I would suspect piston ring problems.

It’s in Essex , there were a couple of nice crawlers there , one beauty with a Drayton , and Daves P/P , both working with Mansleys.
Sadly no photos were taken of them at work.

A JAP engine for your machine has just turned up on the auction site.

Angus , I think you’re correct in the term “unusual” , slopers with govenors are by no means common , I’ve seen a few in my time , but can’t recall what they were fitted to.
The good old auction site certainly raises some smiles…….if you’ve got £1000 to spare , you could treat yourself to a Shay Rotagardener , that being the star buy of the week on there.

No worries , that’s the great thing about this club/forum , fire the questions , and everybody helps.
I served my apprenticeship on Villiers , and 45yrs later , I,ve yet to meet a man who comes even close to Pauls knowledge of Villiers.

“Many thanks to Peter Martin and Jaquie for all the work you did for us all.
A very good weekend, good company, good friends and good weather.
Robert and I had a good time even if the Clifford decided to be a girl and
    sulk and would not start.
    Next stop Weeley in September.
    Dave.”

Which reminds me Dave , I must dig out those two magnetos I promised you.

Initially I would just clean the points without removing the flywheel , make sure the surfaces are thoroughly clean , and check for a spark.
    Let us know the result.

There you go Peter , a Thunder Hut and running water…….no excuses. The Kettle boils frequently in the back of my van.
    See you there.

Dave , rotavators would be a fine idea , it would be nice to see a different slant to our hobby , rather than just ploughs.
It’ll be a TIGHT squeeze in the van , but I’m hoping to bring a brace of 700s.

Charlie , I’m not overly convinced about the accuracy in the book you mention , not only of your machine and engine , but others also.
As far as I’m aware J.A.P. always had some form of stamping somewhere , whereby they could be identified , but like Stuart I would stand to be corrected.

Barry , as you say the brackets did have a habit of cracking , to overcome this Howard made the type you show in the pics , if you look closely , the tanks are slightly different in that this later type had a flare on the crease to accomodate this later modification.
