ParticipantInitially I would just clean the points without removing the flywheel , make sure the surfaces are thoroughly clean , and check for a spark.
Let us know the result.Andy.

ParticipantThere you go Peter , a Thunder Hut and running water…….no excuses. The Kettle boils frequently in the back of my van.
See you there.Andy.

ParticipantDave , rotavators would be a fine idea , it would be nice to see a different slant to our hobby , rather than just ploughs.
It’ll be a TIGHT squeeze in the van , but I’m hoping to bring a brace of 700s.Andy.

ParticipantCharlie , I’m not overly convinced about the accuracy in the book you mention , not only of your machine and engine , but others also.
As far as I’m aware J.A.P. always had some form of stamping somewhere , whereby they could be identified , but like Stuart I would stand to be corrected.Andy.

ParticipantBarry , as you say the brackets did have a habit of cracking , to overcome this Howard made the type you show in the pics , if you look closely , the tanks are slightly different in that this later type had a flare on the crease to accomodate this later modification.

ParticipantPeter , can I just turn up on the day , or is it pre-book only.
I’ve not yet attended this one , and might well do it instead of Weeley.Andy.

ParticipantTake into account that the 25C on Allen Scythes have a form of electronic govenor , basically the points cam opens out centrifugally , this leads to what you could say is erratic running.
I would try it at work , in other words under load , and see if the engine smooths out.Andy.

ParticipantIt’s been said COUNTLESS times on here , multimeters are no good whatsoever for testing ignition coils, they need a go on a purpose built ignition tester.

ParticipantThat looks much like a Sturmey Archer to me , I would say it’s from a Ransomes mower.

ParticipantAs you have confirmed that it’s running hot . that to me confirms that it is timing too far retarded.
Check and reset it , leave the tines as they are , and get back to us.Andy.
