ParticipantJames , best to follow Charlies links , a picture would probably explain matters clearer, or even better post us a pic of your machine.

ParticipantThe rotors on a 220 are centre driven , and side driven on the Bantam , both share almost identical handle bar systems.

ParticipantI also looked at it at Stanfield , for me the jury is still out deciding whether it’s an original production machine , a prototype , or something that has been very well “home engineered”
Personally , I’m leaning toward the latter two of my thoughts , the hydraulic pump , and certainly the pipe work , hardly seem man enough for the machine , I just couldn’t imagine pipe of that diameter permitting enough flow , and this coupled to a very small pump , with no form of cooling the oil.
I , stand to be corrected over this , and really hope some concrete news turns up.Andy.

ParticipantTake the coil to your local(reputeable) garden machinery dealer , he should have a purpose built ignition tester , have it tested and go from there.
Coils simply cannot be tested properly with a multimeter.
My money is , and always has been a duff coil.Andy.

ParticipantYou say you have done a “strip and rebuild” of the magneto , but have you actually had the coil and condenser properly tested , spinning it with a drill will not directly identify your problem.

ParticipantThe model L brings back fond memories for me , my father purchased one new in 1945 , and I was still using it until the 1970s , the twinport 25A makes a beautiful noise when under a good load.
