Hi can anyone help I am renewing the gears in the pto gearbox on my Uni Horse Six Eight, tractor but cannot decide wether or not fo put gear oil or liquid grease in this small gearbox, the reason I am unsure is that to gain access to the inside of this gearbox, two circular plates have to be removed one from the bottom the other from the side, as these plates are just knocked in to a recess in both cases the only way I can see of sealing them is with gasket compound. can anyone help with this is it to be gear oil or would liquid grease be better, with these plates being only an interfereance fit. Regards Chris.

I use liquid grease(00grease) quite a bit , but it is vitally important to ensure that you have no brass or bronze components in your gearbox if you have you will need the suitable straight grade SAE.

Hi Andy Thanks for the reply, I have oo grease as I use it quite often myself, I cannot see any brass components in there so should be ok. Regards Chris.
