vhgmcbuddyMemberThanks for the warning .

vhgmcbuddyMemberThanks Charlie, I think I’ve overloaded my brain with this.
Going to have a break from the engine and paint the chassis instead not much head work in that.
Next big job for me is to get the flywheel off. I am looking for a puller or a knocker as I have read this is the way to go.
Cheers
John.
P.S It is the LAV 35.February 25, 2018 at 7:01 pm #28054
vhgmcbuddyMemberFurther dabbling with the SV54 has left me a little puzzled over the breather. Normal breather operation allows high pressure to escape from the crankcase and close when crankcase pressure is lower than the external air pressure (correct me if I’m wrong). On my Douglas, it is open to breathe in and out, which makes me think something is missing. Attached is a photo of the breather stripped down. I reckon that there should be something between the items arrowed. Anyone else had one of these apart before?

vhgmcbuddyMemberThanks for the attachment Charlie is the LAV 30 35 40 the same as mine a LAV 32 72 368 ?
My next step was to remove the flywheel but its very hard to get off and I don’t want to break it any tips / I did think heat but not sure.
Clive did your uncles blow up or something ? I do have a Briggs spare but would like to try and keep it original.February 25, 2018 at 11:29 am #28046
vhgmcbuddyMemberAt last I have finally got to see the No.s on the I.D plate.
They are LAV 35. 3272368 Does this mean its a 1968 engine.?
Think I’ll get it going if I can before I start stripping down the engine as it has a decompressor and was fitted as new like andyfrost says above.
I can’t see Aspere listed on the allotment org site.February 25, 2018 at 8:57 am #28043
vhgmcbuddyMemberThanks hillsider, very useful downloads from allotment org.
I am wondering now why I have an Aspera and not Briggs.
Was it made like that by Mountfield or has it had an engine change at some time. ?February 24, 2018 at 6:31 pm #28041
vhgmcbuddyMemberYes you were right Alan just found the plate on the engine and I can see it says Aspera. Can’t read the rest but I’ll have a good look when its cleaned.
Bit worried now may need to strip the engine as I can turn it over bye hand with the spark plug in.
Is this normal do you think ?February 24, 2018 at 3:59 pm #28039
vhgmcbuddyMemberThanks Alan.
I think its the Estate but just got engine off and it looks like it may be American.
The quest goes on.

vhgmcbuddyMemberThank you Charlie.
I think I’ll make sure it’s ok mechanical and it works before I give it a paint job.
Hoping someone will know date and also the Mod.No. so I can see if there is a manual for it.
I did email Mountfield but had no reply.
Cheers

vhgmcbuddyMemberCan anyone suggest where I can obtain parts for my Atcoscythe, please? Currently I’m looking for the two clutch cables. My model has a single wheel, and bothe ground drive and the scyth blade are chain driven. I suspect it is a later model? Any advice will be greatly appreciated, especially a copy of the Instruction/Parts Manual.
