Looking at the Briggsbits website it could be that the part numbers have changed, I would suggest giving them a try. Or Meetens may be able to help.

You are correct, the Ransome MG requires RTA cover as would any garden tractor/ride on mower. Pedestrian machines such as British Anzani Iron Horse, Trusty, Barford Atom etc even when fitted with a trailer or riding bogey are still covered by the NFU insurance. This is a specific question we have asked them about.
Terms of the insurance are covered in the BAVCC Safety Code which is sent to all members, copy will be included with April issue of The Cultivator.
Note it is possible to obtain RTA cover for shows and rallies only, these policies do not cover use on public roads where machine would require registration etc.

The magnets induce a voltage in the coil so no external supply from a battery needed. Circuit diagram for a Villiers flywheel magneto.

If not already featured this would be a good one for the main stream tractor magazines to see if anyone can come up with more information. I wonder if Nick Baldwin has any information from his A-Z of tractors series?

Dean, you have already posted this question and we are awaiting photos. It is impossible to identify your machine without seeing it.

Someone did advise me that if using the string method it is better to use hemp rather than man made fibre as hemp will burn rather than melt should any break off inside combustion chamber.

That is going to be expensive to fix.
