barfordpete replied to the topic Planet Jr No4 Spacer Star Thread Size in the forum Pedestrian operated machines 1 month, 2 weeks ago

Doh! It’s a left hand thread so that the seeder spacer star self tightens as the drive shaft turns So definitely a bit rare.

Also the Ransomes website has all the operators manuals and spare parts catalogs available to down load including all their out of production models for free.
The parts catalogs includes part numbers for the spirol pins so it might be worth contacting them to see if they can tell you the required pin size.

Hi. I can’t answer as to what size the holes are but selection sets of these pins (spiral or roll pins) with various diameters and lengths are available on ebay, Amazon and engineering suppliers.

If you have a good selection of drill bits you could see which is the closest fit to measure the hole diameter.

    I hope this helps.

If you do an Internet search for

    “Suffolk operating manuals”

you should find a page with about 20 free to download manuals on another garden machinery Website. Hopefully your model is amongst them.

Are we allowed to name other websites and forums with useful and/or relevant information?

barfordpete replied to the topic Barford Atom Rotary Mower Drive Belt in the forum Pedestrian operated machines 1 year, 10 months ago

I’ve got a drive belt fitted in a way that it stays on the pulleys when turning the engine by hand and with the engine running.

I will post a photo when home from the allotment.

I’ve had to fit a loose belt to be able to start the engine. I couldn’t turn it over fast enough with a tight belt.

I’ve had the mower blade spinning by tensioning the…[Read more]

I’ve done some research on drive belt pulleys that are at 90 degrees to each other and it seems the belt should be twisted so it looks like a figure of 8.

I will try this tomorrow and report back.

Wristpin, thank you for your reply. I will keep that in mind if twisting the belt is not successful.

Hi, I’m having problems getting the rotary mower working.

There is no way that I can see of adjusting the tension of the belt or keeping it on the pulley wheels when I have managed to get a belt on and started the engine.

I’ve looked through the forums and internet but haven’t found any information or pictures.

The only thing similar is the…[Read more]
