Planet jr seeder

I recently acquired this lovely planet jr seed drill. After some research I have discovered it is a planet jr no.22. It is in very good condition just needing the control rod straightening and a new hopper which is apparently a glass Mason jar.
However the control rod confuses me a bit. The top is just bent around the handle which doesn’t seem to match the build quality of the rest of the machine. But I can’t see any other way it could have been attached.
Dose anyone else have one if these seeders and ifso can you tell me if this is correct?

i have the same model and the rod is correct and a mason jar does indeed fit.
