I have just updated the rollers on my daughters mower deck, originally all five turned individually, the rubber rollers had plastic bushes in and wore out quite quickly, over twenty years ago modified my mower fitting ball bearings on the roller arms and fitting the rollers onto three pieces of pipe, these are slid onto a rod that goes through the lot and bolted up tight, now the rollers turn as one whole piece. There is a big unseen benefit as before the end rollers would build up with cut grass, now they self clean as you turn the outer roller going faster speeds up the inner roller that unwraps the built up grass, even the centre part runs cleaner perhaps as it runs freer?, as long as you use grease-able ball bearings and look after them they last as mine done over twenty years use and still ok.
