Another problem! Got the Allen ticking over nicely and driving itself along when not cutting but as soon as I try to cut the long grass in my field it stalls. The blades are sharp though quite pitted. The grass is very long and thick – am I expecting too much? I thought from the write-ups that it would tackle just about anything but it only manages about a foot of cutting before it conks out. Has anyone else managed to cut long grass? I’m reduced to using my strimmer at the moment, which is very tedious!

Try re- checking your ignition timing.

I’ve checked and re-checked the timing. Pretty sure it’s not that.
I’d be really interested to hear from someone who has used an Allen successfully for this kind of work.

I used an Allen scythe in the late 60’s with another man to cut canal grass from Braunston to Coventry, but you don’t say what sort of work?
