MemberRay, just had a good look at the seagull site. Lots of info there ,and when I got to the section about Mr J Marsden I can now see more than one connection why you put this on. In my opinion with the man starting Villiers engines off, none of us would have what we have collected and cherished without him

MemberThank you Geoff for the reply & the offer, but sadly i promised myself i wouldnt be insulted again , my comment was really to bring to VHGMC`s attention that if you are going to put on a display at this show or any other show & people show interest in what that are doing whether it be a member of the public or a potential club member ,please do not ignore them . Just because i had a bad experience doesnt mean anyone else should experience the same .
The Malvern Tractor show is a great show & the first major show of the year & VHGMC allways put on a good display of vintage machinery & is well worth a visit .December 14, 2013 at 6:19 am #4033vhgmcbuddy
MemberRay, like you say the Villiers carb is similar to one I saw last week. Do you have the deflector which normally fits on the end to stop sea water entering in a storm.

MemberHi Angus,
Just an update on the Suffolk project.
Started on the engine, cleaned it externally,The piston was seized solid but finally got it free. Took the sump off and removed half a pint of water and a cup full of sludge. All looked suprisingly good. Standard piston and not any obvious sign of wear. Seizure looks as though it is due to being stood for a long time rather than lack of lubrication.
Put it all back together and gave it a quick lick of paint to make it look better.
After cleaning out the carb, tried to start it and it fired up first time and runs well, needs a bit of fine tuning, however after about 5 minutes oil started seeping from the main bearing, anyway shouldn’t be too much of a problem.December 13, 2013 at 4:25 pm #4007vhgmcbuddy
Memberjohn i remember years ago i used to spray vans with dulux mixed with 20% petrol used to give it a dust coat 10 mins later added 25% yacht varnish to what was left in the pot, give it a heavy one like orange peel, next morning it had flowed out smooth and was so shiney you could have shaved in it, no elf and safety then 😀

MemberI cant help but say this it has been bothering me for nearly three years now .
But on my first trip to the Malvern Tractor show i went up to the VHGMC stand on three occassions & introduced myself to the group & on all three of these occassions i was totally ignored & was left standing at the stand like a
spare p at a wedding , It was made clear that my face didnt really fit in the group.
This also happened again at the isleport vintage gathering in Highbridge Somerset a couple of years ago . Hopefully this doesnt happen to all people that introduce themselves.May i just say, that if anyone that makes the effort to introduce themselves would it be possible for them to be made to feel welcome .
There now ,i have got it off my chest but this has really bugged me for three years now

MemberBeing a poor sleeper this hobby certainly helps me a lot with turnaround as some days I can get an extra 3 or 4 ours out of the standard day. many people comment on the fact that I have to much time on my hands but its only down to managing the time. a few updates on engine restoration…
Tried to clean up the makers plate but so worn that it definatly looks like when I order decals a plate will also have to be considered from Titch.December 12, 2013 at 9:23 pm #3991vhgmcbuddy
MemberThat looks like a nice compact unit John.
I’ve had a look inside my unit today. There is a fused link in there that had blown, so i thought i was onto a winner. It wasn’t to be though. It was still not charging.
So I had another look and found one of the regulator contacts has burnt away.
I’ll have a play with it and see if I can rework it.
It’s no good as it is, so i’ll give that a try first and if that fails then i’ll look at that unit you’ve linked.
thanks for that though.
Cheers
