ParticipantI think a machine as old and as rare as this even in its dilapidated condition with a light clean up would make a display piece in its own right, particularly at a Simar themed event. Its good that you are going to try and recover it.–Steve.

ParticipantCharlie, So he’s playing that old trick again!
I’ve witnessed Chair buying members breakfast at Tractor World and thought to myself “What a benevolent Chair. He really appreciates his fellow members.”
Then I noticed each breakfast came complete with electorial propaganda; a ‘Vote Geoff for Chair’ leaflet which had to be signed very quickly by the lucky? reciprient thus completing a proxy vote to be counted at the forthcoming AGM. Failure to sign the voting slip quickly resulted in the breakfast going cold.
Little wonder he has more votes than members present at the AGM but then we all know he didn’t get where he is today without a cunning plan!
Now he is exposed will the next the next issue of The Cultivator carry the headline “AGMvotesgate scandal”
Lets be positive, back a winning horse, join the battle cry “Vote Geoff for Chair”February 14, 2017 at 6:18 pm #24398stevewoollas
ParticipantHello All,
I will be there all being well with, not only some painted rust which is coming out for its first time, but also the club shop which is rather well stocked so come and choose your desired items.
Also looking forward to seeing the proof of Chairs Trusty book.
Its going to be a very full weekend– set up on arrival, breakfast, view auction, bid at auction, pay at auction (shed a tear at prices) hide new items from wife, view displays, sell shop items, head to hotel, back in morning, breakfast again, visit trader market, feel all weak at prices, pluck up courage and buy something, smuggle item back to stand and make it look like part of Ivans display, check wife is unaware, read Chairs new book, he’s slipped up here–no need to buy one now!!, look at displays, sell more shop items (support me on this one!) time to pack up, convince wife these are not new items and that we brought them with us, pack all in Ivans trailer, fall asleep on way home, Yes another weekend show passing all too quickly.
See you there!!–SteveNovember 26, 2016 at 7:25 pm #23229stevewoollas
ParticipantIvan–Some nice items. The power edge trimmer looks very original. Only last night you were telling me the garage and sheds were too full!!! Just goes to show, always room for another.–Steve

ParticipantHello, Looks as if you all had a really great time. I particularly like the display with the push hoes, wooden wheelbarrow and boxes of produce etc, that really adds another dimension to the line up.
Thanks Geoff for the pic of the Rover P6 Estate, a rare version of this model as historically Rover did not produce estates or allow chassis/bodies to go for conversion until quite late in the P6 production then only in very limited numbers. I used to know of one parked in an orchard which the owner would not sell or get around to restoring and I suspect it eventually sunk into the ground and died.
I had my prescription of vintage vehicle fulfilment at Lincoln Steam this weekend when walking round the commercial vehicle section, a 1950’s Rowe Hillmaster lorry powered by a underslung Meadows engine and then further along was a Rowe built coach. Made my day.
Congratulations Kevin on a successful event–SteveJune 15, 2016 at 12:45 pm #21192stevewoollas
ParticipantHello Sam,
It may be the usual usage for this hoe is not hoeing but being shuffled backwards and forwards to create a fine seed bed prior to sowing. The serated bar could be an addition an appears to rotate to a degree. With the teeth turned downwards into the soil the hoe could be drawn along to create the drill in the seed bed.–SteveApril 17, 2016 at 6:45 pm #20563stevewoollas
ParticipantSam, Thats a slightly different form of slasher. Good to see the makers name intact. Mind your shins–Steve

ParticipantAn interesting development in the Jalo story.
I notice the Westo is available from Westbourne Garden Centre and that although the address is in the Bournemouth area quite different to the advertised addresses for the Jalo company.
I suspect this is a form of platform manufacturing or OEM branding, a practice which still occurs today. This is where a manufacturer will produce one product which is then marketed and sold under several brand names, usually with one brand name allocated to each different outlet.
In the case of the Jalo Gardener it would be interesting to discover whether the wording “Jalo Gardener” was retained on the cast aluminium tool frame, or the wording changed to read “Westo” or left blank. The other point of brand identification on the Jalo was the “Jalo” sticker on the handles which could easily be substituted with an alternative brand.January 8, 2016 at 1:46 pm #15695stevewoollas
ParticipantAlthough it is a little difficult to gauge the size from an item from a photograph this item appears very similar to something I have just seen in the depths of the shed which is the mounting bracket for a Trusty belt pulley wheel.

ParticipantDon’t you worry about Fenland Dawn, Eve, Gail or any of the Chairmans other favourite members of the Fenland Ladies Guild. They are all well and hibernating until spring although very disappointed none of them received a return Christmas card from Chair, but then again, did you? No, he seems very mean on the Christmas front.
It’s good in his post above he is doing what he’s good at, ie promoting the VHGMC, this time in the form of the Club Shop. These concentrated efforts in promoting all things VHGMC is a major factor in why he is such a good Chair……..which reminds me the AGM is only two months away so I am sure you will all join me in the annual battle cry of “Geoff for Chairman” and “Vote for Geoff” at the AGM in March. The campaign commences!!
Its a shame no one can recognise the Trusty patent part he has placed a picture of at the head of this post. Yes, he has taken delivery of a whole host of cast replacement parts for Trustys from the far east, however the quality is so poor no one can recognise which part is which so it is not surprising no one has identified this correctly. I guess he could be the “Del Boy” of garden tractor sparesOctober 24, 2015 at 6:20 pm #14994stevewoollas
ParticipantWe are busy sorting out tools for the VHGMC display area. This year will involve a specific theme involving mainly tools which have not been displayed at Tractor Newark before, in fact most of them have not seen daylight in the last six years so much time is currently being spent dusting them off. Hope the themed idea works.
Also Newark will be the launch of a new item in the club shop so come and visit the club stand.
See you there–SteveSeptember 16, 2015 at 7:41 pm #14444stevewoollas
ParticipantI’ve got it.
I’ve seen these when visiting Ravenhall. They belong to a suit of armour which stands in the Great Hall in the baronial mansion. These sections make up the shin protectors and fit over the elbow joints and knee joints to provide total protection when running away waving ones arms in despair.
It all comes back to me now, our Chair dons these items before advising the Good Lady Ravenhall he has taken delivery of another Trusty tractor, as she vents her anger Chair protects himself by wearing the suit of armour of which these are integral components.
He’s also known to hide in this suit of armour when the tax collector calls.

ParticipantHello Pete,
It was me who spoke with you just after you bought the Colwood Powerbarrow on Saturday and i’m glad you found the VHGMC website and Forum. Hope fully it will prove useful to you.
My grandson, Drewboy, took three pictures of the Colwood so hopefully you don’t mind me adding them on here.
Good luck with your restoration–Steve -
