    hi
i have taken 2 more photos, one of the throttle control where it connects with a spring to the governor arm but i have no idea of which hole, or if i need more than one spring.
i could put the tank back on to show the position but if i did that, a photo would show nothing as you cannot see between the tank and the engine as the space between is very small, even taking a photo of the governor is practically impossible as you cant get the camera down to the governor arm

    hi
i will take another photo i have to take the photos like this as when the fuel tank is in position and the linkage connected there is no space between the engine and fuel tank to get a photo of anything decernable.
i live in newton stewart S W Scotland DG8 6LS but i doubt anyone can help me with out knowledge of this particular model.

the workshop manual is rubbish, it does not show how the various elements of the throttle and governor linkage connect to each other, not are there any words describing anything

    hi
here are 2 photos, one is the throttle mechanism that is controlled by the hand lever, as can be seen there are some holes in where some sort of spring connects this to the governor or/and the carb linkage, which you can see in the photo of the governor lever.
with my dementure i cant remember what was on it 7 months ago when i put a new carb on it, i have a feeling there was only one spring that connected the throttle arm to the governor. i am at my wits end with this and would be grateful for any help.

sorry got confused and put a tree on by mistake and cant see how to delete it

    regards richard

my unit does not have a second shaft with the adjustment, it is all done by the preload on the spring, hidden between the fuel tank and engine which as an engineer is totally rubbish design anyone with a brain could see my set up would cause problems.
one has to question B & S design team, why have they got dozens of engines and types of the same power, if they designed the first one right , there would be no need for all the variations and the nightmare of identufication. seriously considering dumping my b & s engine and getting something designed better

    hi
yes i think you could be right in the that the spring anchor on the throttle lever could need bending, i think the reason it is not getting full throttle is the spring is in the way.
no comments about obvious design flaws lol.
    thanks for all your help

    hi
thanks for the very detailed info, i have managed to get it going on the handlebar throttle , only problem is it wont get full throttle, think the spring i have is wrong and stopping it opening it fully. i have also purchased other parts whilst trying to sort this and have been definitely been sent wrong stuff, trouble is, i have no idea what the correct spring looks like or where it is supposed to be atteched, will have another look tomorrow.
although briggs engines may be reliable and sound, the rest of the design is dogshite. firstly why is the carb flange vertical making screwing very difficult, why have the throttle and governor linkage hidden behind the tank, worst of all why is there not proper drawing of how everything fits together, especially after buying the workshop manual, which is rubbish. a proper workshop manual should have detailed word description of how something goes together.
my credentials, in motor trade for 50 years , designed race engines and cars that won 3 national championships.
now i am getting a bit senile and this sort of job, i would have eaten it 10 years ago but now causes me great stress and making mistakes

hi i have already got the briggs manual and it is no help what so ever as to the relationship between the govenor and the trottle cable but you 56 pic looks like it could be the answer, it shows the spring connecting the throttle cable and the governor arm. will have another go and set it up as it shows on 56 and let you know

    hi andy
below are the photos, one shows the fuel tank with the throttle cable connected to a bracket which moves as the throttle is opened with a return spring to help it go back to idle.
the second one is difficult to understand if you are not familiar with this piece of kit, it is not a good photo as it is so hard to show but what it shows is that the governor arm has a thin rod attached to it which the way i have it set up, is the only connection between the carburettor and the rest of the machine. as i said it runs great, the governor works , it just i have nio method to open the throttle with the control lever.
please get back to me if you need any more info

    cheers richard
