Alternatively the throttle cable needs adjusting at top of carb, if too long it allows slide to drop to far and engine will stop. Adjusting length has same effect as opening throttle with lever ie it lifts the slide and needle.

The block looks like a Mk20 or 25 but the fan cowling is wrong for either of those. The cowling is similar to that on some early Allen Scythe engines. A mystery. Any part numbers on the castings eg block, magneto back plate etc.?

Alastair, I may have a couple of wheels, are they steel or aluminium? Is it both halves that are cracked? Tyres are a problem as they are an obsolete size. Some models of Merry Tiller had the same size.
The only washer I can think of that looks like the two mystery ones are the hub retaining washers MT214, although they have a hole not a dimple.
