Having still failed to get the my Simar C50 working almost a year after purchase, (too many projects, not enough time…) it seemed entirely logical to go after another machine, which was suitably cheap due to it’s decapitated state.

From a quick dredge through the french Motoculteurs Simar website I believe it to be a Simar 35. I’m sure Charlie or Peter will be able to confirm!

The initial plan had been to rob the Wico A magneto from this to try to get the C50 into life, but I’ve since had a lead on getting the original Lucas mag from that machine repaired. To which end I began to wonder just how slim are my chances of finding an engine compatible with what appears to be a rear end in rather good condition… Does anyone know of any power units going spare?!

    Yes Mike, that’s a 35.
Good luck with your search for an engine. Pity the original is lost, the rest of the machine looks pretty decent.

If you want a Lucas magneto repair I can thoroughly recommend Tony Cooper. He specialises in Lucas and BTH (don’t ask him to do Wico A, he doesn’t touch them!) and does a lot of work for museums and clubs. He doesn’t advertise, doesn’t overcharge and doesn’t do anything else but he really knows his stuff.

He can be contacted on 0121 559 2405 and is based in Halesowen in the West Midlands.
