ParticipantThat’s ok, I am sure you will find some sort of identification numbers on the engine -probably on the flywheel cowling. There is section in the engine info link that describes what you are looking for and where is will be located.

Memberhillsider !!! I have found it hidden by dust and a bit oil. What do you make of this?
OH140 160039B SER 7327E Some markings “Lauson Power Products” Engines – Solid State Ignition.
Many thanks as usual.August 13, 2014 at 4:20 pm #9705hillsider
ParticipantWell found, you have identified that your machine has a Tecumseh OH140 overhead valve cast iron engine fitted. This seems to be the engine that was fitted as standard from the information we have uncovered so far unfortunately from what I have seen listed the standard exhausts listed for this engine don’t seem to match the remains of the exhaust on your engine. This leads me to think that you need to be exploring websites supplying Roper parts, this may well lead you across the Atlantic.
You may have difficulty in locating some parts for this engine as I understand that Tecumseh are no longer building engines, hopefully someone will correct me if I am incorrect.
Re the Tecumseh engine there is a good source of information at Meetens Engines they will be able to advise you on parts availability.
http://www.meetens.co.uk/You may find this manual helpful, it contains a lot of general information about the engine you have including how to identify it and find its build date.

ParticipantLauson Power Products aka Tecumseh. So you have a Tecumseh OH140, problem solved, sort of!

ParticipantThought that I might be able to edit my previous post and add this on but apparently not, the “mechanics” of this forum drive me nuts at times!
So this may be useful to you

If you would like the parts list to go with it I will scan it and post it but there are another 20 pages!
A lot of US manufacturers used third party mufflers, many bearing the name Nelson.http://www.nelsonglobalproducts.com/catalogs/
On my puter the above link is very slow to open but it does eventually!

MemberGents. I am getting back to you to inform that I have finally found my muffler (have actually bought 3 pieces when last in the US in March) but had to weld a 1″ steel pipe to get it to fit where it should on the exhaust part of the engine (the other end of the pipe was threaded to match the muffler’s end). Thank you all for your help and shared documents.
I am asking for one little additional information concerning the long belt that connects to the rotating cutting deck (there are 2 blades) via a set of 2 at the front and 2 at the rear poulies. The young neighbour who cuts my grass must have hit a tree stump and the belt snapped/got shredded and came off (I also think a bit came off).
Questions if I may:
– What is the length of this belt ?
– Anyone got a sketch of how to fit the belt back on the tractor? Thanks again, your help is appreciated.
