I have the cylinder head off my MG5 due to a rapidly exiting spark plug, which stripped its threads. I have had the head helicoiled and purchased a new spark plug so the immediate problem is resolved, but now have a couple of questions:
Are there torque settings for the cylinder head bolts?
While the head is off I would like to check valve clearances – how do I check valve clearances and what should they be set to?
    Thanks!

The valve clearances should be 0.006″ inlet and 0.008″ exhaust
Gap set with piston at top of stroke on compression and checked under the cover plate on the side of the barrel. Tappet bolt and locknut screwed into the tappets.
Cylinder bolt head torque 32 lb/ft

Hi Neil – that’s great, thanks.
Is there a workshop manual that lists these specifications (and others) that I could get hold of for future maintenance?
