Hi folks, i have recently inherited a 1962 Howard Gem, the engine is a Sachs d500w single cylinder 2 stroke diesel, a absolute beast of a machine, the plan is to keep as is and put it to work on our family allotment, downside is the fuel pump has died, the shaft on the inside has snapped and my spare pump also has the same problem.

is there anyway to modify a different diesel pump to fit my engine? the pumps are no longer made and a replacement from Germany is 400 euro….. i would like to keep the Sachs engine if possible as its a good machine

    Hi

Not in a position to help at the moment as just in the reassemble stage of a similar unit for my cousin. I am told that the engine was running in my case before it was laid up 5 years ago with a broken rotor. I will look and see if I can suggest an alternative.

    Hi there.
I think you will find that the pump from a Hirth D23 engine as fitted to the 700 and the 400 use the same basic pump, but probably just as hard to find one of them.
