Hi, Im sorry to bother you but don’t know who else would know this. I have a howard 350 and sounds like i need to replace the rotor drive shaft/sprocket (part172), it grinds when engaging the blades under load but ok when free spinning.

Do i have to remove and dismantle the whole gear box or can i get it off from the other side? it looks like theres about 6 rivets holding a boss on, which is holding the backplate on, neither of these are noted as parts in the list so assume theyre permanently fixed? Nay help is appreciated, Im worried Ill lose half the bits taking the gears out. Thanks in advance

In order to fit a new rotor shaft / sprocket assy the chaincase needs to be split. Those rivets only fix the bearing housings onto the chain casing. It sounds like you may have other “issues” with the gearbox that need attention if its making a grinding noise.
