Can anyone help?
I have acquired a Howard Bantam Rotovator from I think the early 1950’s. It is fitted with Howards 120cc AC engine.
I have eventually got this running, however it is throwing out oil via the breather tube. I filled it with 1 1/2 pints based ion the amount used in the BSA 120cc engine, as that’s the only manual I could find.
Can anyone advise of the correct oil amount required, or offer any other words of advice?
Many thanks
Glenn
Hi I recall having rebuilt one of these engines for a customer around 15 yrs ago, I think about a pint of oil sounds more like it, unless you have a lot of back pressure in the sump through worn piston rings, causing it to push oil out, I had the piston rings made by Philip Daintree, and also the head gasket, of which I still have 3 left, if you or anyone else needs one. Good little engine the AC 120cc when running right. Regards Chris.

Many thanks for the info. I have put new piston rings in so I think its probably the oil volume that is the issue. I will try with 1 pint.
I may be back to you re one of the head gaskets.
Best wishes
Glenn
