ParticipantJoys of two strokes ! Found an old post regarding timing :- points start opening 5/32 inch BTDC. Also refitting flywheel accurately. As said check simple things first although My previous workings with 2 strokes best do a leak down test to check condition seals especially old engines.

ParticipantJust some more info, the engine would start okay and run for 30 mins then stop. After cooling it would start again. It has had a new set of points/condenser/coil fitted but will not start at all now. Personally i would be looking at crank seals ( 2 stroke) but the machine belongs to a work colleague.

ParticipantPulse jet carb. To be fair I was not 100 % satisified with its running but engine is fitted to cement mixer so neglected over last 30 yrs

ParticipantSorted. I had forgot to tighten the carb to cylinder head bolts so running lean.

ParticipantDone some research on this.Apart from cleaning the carb through again advised to check carb to fuel tank seal and “preload” diaphragm. This is achieved by pulling out choke by app 3/8 ins and then tightening carb to tank screws ?

ParticipantNot sure about two speed pulley. Standard P.T.O end one. Hopefully my attempts for a weld repair will be okay. Have not found a uk supplier of pulleys yet.

ParticipantAfter some searching the bore on my engine is alloy not steel. Therefore honing not recommended. Standard rings to fit then
February 16, 2021 at 3:50 pm #36646rotevat
ParticipantIs it still necessary to hone bore if fitting standard rings. When I turn crank the piston Drags up oil onto the bore wall. I presume the oil scrapper ring is u/s ?
