I am very surprised there are no markings on the edge of the crown wheels as even the spares have them. They should look like this but if you still have a problem please email me njarrett@btinternet.com

I have new old stock 398/5 carburettors but no spares. Chances of getting a 356/1 is slim.

I think you will find the carburettor may be a 398/5 which has an oblong fuel bowl rather than round. This was a very late fit part and mainly by water boards etc. I do not know much about these but have never seen an issue with one.

    Bruce,
Is this the 356/1 carburettor? It may be that the internal cross drillings are becoming blocked and may need an ultrasonic clean to clear them. It is not easy as the cross drillings are end blocked after manufacture. Additionally have you checked the jets and emulsion tube which sometimes gets a split or the solder end plug is…[Read more]

I only have these extra photos. The engine is fitted to a Ransomes MG5 tractor in the Netherlands but is not original.
I am interested as it appears a good fit.

ransomes256 replied to the topic Ransomes MG5 roller frame removal in the forum Ride-on machines 3 years, 11 months ago

As you have stripped it so far I would continue as if ever you need to remove it for some essential maintenance it will make life easier. Just grease the cross tube up when putting it all back together.
MG5 is easier than MG6 as they have 2 cross tubes and cannot be twisted off.
