Troy Tractivator

Hi guys, I recently acquired this Troy Tractivator. It runs really well. However last night the drive train fell off!
We got the cover plate off and inside it looked like there was some sort of homemade chain tensioner in it? Does anyone have a photo of the inside of theirs so I can see what it’s meant to look like?
I’m wondering if a new chain had been fitted at some point but was too big and the tensioner was extra?
Any help would be appreciated, cheers.

I am not familiar with the detail of these machines but a clear photo of the tensioner set up might help determine if it is a later modification, it is not clear in the first photo.
