ParticipantHi all
I am new to the forum so would first of all like to say hello to you all, and thank you for allowing me to join the forum.I am based in Cheshire
I am new to this world and have recently purchased an old machine which from the little research I have done believe it to be a Westwood possibly a T1100 but will be happily guided on this?
The engine is a Honda GV400
It drives and runs ok but the belt needs adjustment to get the cutting deck working.
I am looking to do a light restoration as I want this in regular use.
And help, advice and pointers greatly appreciated especially sourcing parts once I can confirm the make and model.

alanParticipantHello
The Westwood is usually an easy machine to work on and get replacement bits like belts etc.
I take it that it is a twin-blade mower deck? And 36″?
The mower deck is the earlier version with the angular sides, rather than the later rounded deck. That indicates it might be a later W11 model with the black front nose. This would be late 1970s to 1984ish.
If you think it is a T1100 then that would be the mid-1980s, but that would usually be seen with the rounded deck.
If it was a W11 or T1100, then it would originally have had an 11hp Briggs & Stratton engine with electric start.

alanParticipantMy Westwood tractor list gives initially the:
W6 – 6hp – 28″ deck
W8 – 8hp – 28″ deck
W11 – 11hp – 36″ deckThen from 1984-86 the:
S600 – 6hp – 30″ deck
S800 – 8hp – 30″ deck
S1100 – 11hp – 32″ deck
T800 – 8hp – 36″ deck
T1100 – 11hp – 36″ deckAll had Briggs & Stratton engines – all electric start apart from the basic W6 and the basic S600.

ParticipantMany thanks Alan, sounds like it’s had a replacement engine at some point then. I need to have a more detailed look at it but it’s currently stored at my parents.
I will also try to get some more photos next time I am thereFebruary 24, 2026 at 9:14 pm #44610urbanalfa
ParticipantI would agree that it’s a replacement engine. Probably not uncommon that another engine was grafted on to keep the machine working.
Alan – seeing the pictures reminds me of a Westfield I drove in the late 80s. It had the angular deck and a twin cylinder, electric start Briggs engine. I seem to recall it being badged as a Westwood Gazelle. Was the W11 the largest of that range or was there one available with a larger engine, do you know?

alanParticipantUrbanalfa – Yes, there was a Westwood Gazelle with a twin cylinder Briggs engine, it was the 16hp W16, and it had electric start and a 48” angular deck. This would be the later 1970s, replaced in the mid-1980s with the similar T1600 with the same engine but a smaller 42” rounded mower deck. At the same time as the T1600 was the identical T1200 but this had a Lombardini diesel engine.

ParticipantPlease forgive my ignorance but to check the deck size is it the blade that’s measured?
Or physical deck?February 26, 2026 at 3:11 pm #44627
alanParticipantIt is the cutting width of the blade from tip-to-tip. The deck will be a couple of inches wider than the cutting width.
The measurement may not be exact either, a 30″ blade may measure 29.5″ or just be converted from centimeters to the nearest inch for putting on a brochure.

ParticipantThanks Alan, yes it had a 48″ deck so I’m sure it was the W16. I’ve not seen one for years!
Many thanks
