MG40 Drayton oil problem

Trying to change the oil on this inherited machine that hasn’t been started since 2003. Drained in accordance with instructions including the camcase but will only take about 1L (capacity 1.562L)of oil and nothing appears in the sight glass. Can’t understand this as sight glass lower than tank level. Any help will be much appreciated.

If the engine runs I would start it and run it for a few minutes and then top up the tank, or at least turn the engine over a number of times to fill up the pumps and galleries. Low oil volume will do no harm as it is a dry sump system.
