B&S flywheel nuts. 1/2"UNF LH Thread.

In connection with my earlier postings. Does anyone have any 1/2″-20UNF Left Hand thread nuts they could spare or, point me in the right direction ?

This is the flywheel holding nut for a 1960 B&S 3HP engine (mine is missing). Briggs no longer supply this part apparently and the only websites I have found are in the USA.

Will the nut from an old cast iron block Suffolk fit ? They were were basically a Briggs made under licence. No shortage of them!

Damn, I scrapped one of those a few years back !

Thanks for that, I will certainly bear it mind. Of course, the one thing I haven’t done yet is go to my local mower shop; they’ve probably got dozens of them on the shelf (not)!

If it’s any help the part number was L08043. Latterly F016L08043

Problem solved. I have just purchased a bag of 10 x 1/2″UNF LH thread half nuts from McGill Motorsport in Scotland. (apparently they are used on Rose Joints on racing cars)

Although only half nuts they are actually quite thick and two used together should work fine.
