well I suppose it could be a bad ink job, i’ll try to repost the picture that didn’t come though the first time. always great to get items for free. Not that its valuable, and this one is in not so good a shape on the canvass, but something to put up, just so I can say I has one.

Some great photos there Alan, I went last year and really enjoyed the show. Wanted to go this year but was told I have to go wedding shopping. A bit far to realistically enter but hopefully will be back as a spectator next year.

One very usefull item that came with the machine was a photo copy of the original instruction book.

After seeing examples of his work at Tractor World I bit the bullit and ordered up new i.d plates from http://www.vintagebrassplates.co.uk not cheap at £45 each but I felt it was money well spent.

The clutch plates had seen better days, luckily these are the same as fitted to a standard Gem. I had one good used one and a new one on the shelf.

The rear diff unit had been badly welded up so after cutting off the bolts and weld etc the damage was ground out and filled, along with most the threads being helicoiled.

Is this the worse chain case ever? Originally the 800 had a plain example fitted so this one must of been retrofitted at some point.

The most major component to sort out is the engine. After a lot of consideration I have decided to rebuild this machine as a Kohler example so the hunt for a doner was on. Once very plentiful now it appears that they are very hard to come by. At a local plant sale i purchased a Complete gem, however on dismantling the engine it was found to be shot!

All gears have been checked and fourtunatley work well, so the gearbox assembly was taken to bare metal this morning and several coats of high build primmer applied.

The insides of the rims were very rusty so these were cleaned up and primed before new vedestrain tyres and tubes were fitted.

As i had a spare set of tyres in my store i started by warming up them up and then removing the very perished rubber.
