I have a rotary plough,30 inch rotary mower and a rotovator,I have been looking for another gravely myself and attachments but they are quite rare you were lucky to find yours.Do you know of anywhere in this country that carries spares for them I have been buying from america which is costly and time consuming waiting for delivery.I have read about a conversion to a honda type engine and it seems very involved.

Sorry for the delay in replying I’m just getting over food poisoning so I have not been viewing, I have a model L super convertible and no I only have three attachments so none spare,Hi wristpin I understand the points need an earth but I started her up and the stop button wouldnt stop her so I put a meter on the stop wire after I had disconnected it and found it had continuity to everywhere on the frame which to my simple mind negated the stop button because it was already earthed, somewhere along the way I have obviously not got it straight in my head but I presumed the stop button shorted the coil to earth but if it is already earthed whats the point of the button, anyway I found a magneto specialist at the other end of our village so they are going to give it the once over (eventually , they are not quick workers ).

Thanks for the replies,I have had the mag off and replaced the ign lead with new and I took the points apart and cleaned them up with emery I put the mag back on and set the points to 16 thou and checked and double checked then took the head off and set the timing 3/16ths btdc and checked this twice by turning the engine over and checking when the points were just opening and replaced the spark plug with new.I havent touched the valves yet so I will go back to them and start again.

I removed the engine and with a good puller and a lot of heat finally got the flywheel off to reveal a sheared key, after looking online it appears the keys can shear for no other reason than a backfire, hopefully when I have sourced new keys I can have another go at sorting the carb out, many thanks to all who replied.

I took the head off late last night and the valves seem in good order they seem to work properly ( they go up and down as the engine is rotated ) but when the magnet on the flywheel is directly below the coil the piston is almost at the bottom of the bore surely that’s not right.I am assuming that when the magnet passes the coil it generates a spark so for combustion to occur the piston needs to be somewhere up top, I am not really a petrol person so not sure most of what I have is diesel apart from these and they only come out occasionally, (should get them out more ).

When I first fitted the coil it ran quite well until you increased the revs then started popping back through the carb, after it stalled I turned the fast jet screw back to where I started but then the locking up started I didn’t alter the timing from when it was running ok at idle,I have just been on the briggs and Stratton web site and they are suggesting that popping back through the carb is usually a sheared key on the flywheel which would alter the timing,so could be an engine out job as I cant get to the flywheel in situ

At the last vintage sortout at newbury I met a seller that said he was the uk’s largest plough specialist and he had tons of plough points and other plough parts,it might be worth giving him a ring, his number is 07850335991 or 01733252185 and his companies name is Westlake and his name is mark, let us know how you get on as he could be a useful contact for other members.

I could give you some dimensions by measuring mine and some photos if it helps but I cant do it for a couple of weeks as I’m away to Scotland till after easter, but you are welcome to photos and dimensions,if you are near Swindon you can come after easter and take photos yourself.

Looking at the picture of brians it doesn’t look particularly big or very heavy,I have a couple of landmaster rotary hoes that are big and very heavy but are not 150’s,maybe a picture or two would help with identification.
