Hi all I have recently aquifer a ‘kleinmotoren’ 2 stroke engine which has a reduction gearbox mounted to it. I have looked at the company’s website (they are now called Solo Germany) and I can see a picture of what looks like my motor on their tiller on their timeline 1950’s page. It has a very thin flywheel and as a result a large teardrop cowling made of cast alloy which makes it look like one of the most beautiful small engines I have aever seen. I will contact solo but just wondered if any of you had heard of this brand and the engines uses?
When I used to earn my living “on the spanners” back in the 1980’s we used to have a customer who had a Solo set of equipment. It was very revolutionary for the time because it consisted of a small engine that came in it’s own plastic casing that you could use on various attachments- I think he had a water pump and a chainsaw- and you simply attached it by turning a lever that worked a cam to lock it onto the machine that you wanted to power and it drove directly off the crankshaft.
I can’t remember if it was 2 or 4 stroke but it was somewhere in the region of 25cc.
Can’t help with the older machines, but as I work for an agricultural machinery manufacturer, I do know that Solo equipment is still available in the UK via http://www.solo-sprayers.co.uk/.
When I was working for the Agricultural Eng,s “F.H Burgess” in the mid 1990,s there was some old (1960,s / 1970,s) sales brochures for Solo equipment.I always remember there was a brochure for a twin cylinder chainsaw :):).Wish I had them brochures now !!
That’s very similar Busman – mine has a steel tank and different exhaust and air intake. Looks like the same lightweight lump. It makes the same very loud noise and sounds like it’s going to take off when you Rev it. Definitely more fun than the four strokes and other small two strokes I am used to. Will post pic soon.
