I’ve got a Jap engined outboard motor to get running for a customer. There is currently no spark, so I’ve tried to remove the flywheel to get at the points etc. And it won’t budge!

I know it’s not horticultural, but seeing as these little engines were put on all sorts of things this was the first place to ask! I think it’s a 3hp Jap engine.

    Any help gratefully received!

Sounds like a JAP80 , flywheel is held on a taper with woodruff key. If it’s your first attempt at removing one I would suggest making a puller. Remove the starter pawl assembly , and use this as a template for your puller , the three screws can also be used for your puller. Grind a reasonably blunt point on your pulling bolt so it centralises in the end of the crankshaft , tension up and a VERY light tap with a hammer and it will pop off.
Let us know how you get on.

    Andy.
