Douglas engine on a Trusty Plough

Hi,

I have at long last decided to bite the bullet and attempt to restore my old Trusty having favoured using an Anzani Ironhorse.

Its not really appealed to me in the past due to having a very thirsty Douglas engine and recently had thought of changing the engine but its a question of what for and how to find another unit (answers on a post card please…).

Is there a way to date the engine as it has a plate on it that reads 1930LB and the model is a SV54?

Hello, Roger,

It will be interesting to hear how you compare the Trusty to the Anzani once you’ve got used to it, but that’s something for next year!

Assuming the Douglas engine is the original it would be easier to date it from the tractor’s serial number. If you let me know I will add it to the Trusty Register and look it up next time I do the research.

My preference is for the JAP 6 as it has the same power and torque but weighs a lot less, but then you don’t have to listen to me!
