Bantam rotovator drive

Hi all, can any one help with this one, I have a bantam rotovator which will not engage drive at all. The strange thing is that if you put it on it’s side gearbox down it engages fine but on wheels or laid on it’s side with gearbox skywards it will not engage at all, there seems to be a lot of play side to side of the wheels in the frame which is likely the problem but what is the cure?

There should be no sideways movement (or VERY little) of the wheels.If you strip it down im sure the wear will be apparent.

As Stuart says, if there is a lot of lateral movement, the teeth disengage on the axle shaft, maybe one has stripped. You will have to investigate , it is probably remedied quite simply.
