I found this advert in a 1953 issue of The Smallholder and Home Gardening magazine. Has anyone ever heard of this company or machine?

    Hello Charlie,
Not heard of the Hortag Bulldog but interesting to see particularly with the difficulties Howard had with Lanz over the name Bulldog.
We have a Hortag mechanical spade which is very similar to the Terex mechanical spade in our collection. As with Terex, Hortag also produced a fork version.–Steve

Bulldog was a brand of hedgelayers and forest hand tools probably amalgamated with Hortag to make the tractor

    Thanks for replies.
Steve, I found a photo on the Cheffins website showing the Hortag spade. Like you I wondered how they faired using the Bulldog name, knowing the problem encountered by Howard.

I asked the Gloucestershire Society for Industrial Archaeology and they had not heard of Hortag. I am following up their suggestion of a request for information via the Brimscombe parish newsletter.

Ivan thanks for photos. I remember my father having one of those, I also remember one in the auction at Tractor World a couple of years ago.
