Howard took on a contract to build 50 mini gappers but only a few were built as they did not catch on with beet growers and then in the 60s beet seeds were individualy pelletted that meant the seed could with the new drills be planted 6-8 inches apart and there was no need for men to go gapping with hoes or any machine that was used to gap the beet when the seed was sown in complete rows .in the 80s howard still had a lot of chassis in yard for the mini gapper ,which were never built.at this time there are about 8 mini gappers known to exist sadly most of them are not complete,I know of only one other than mine that is 99% complete.sadly these got cut up and changed into machines that suited certain growers ..my howard mini gapper is 100% complete with purpose built drill on a purpose built trailer that is covered in grass so machine can be displayed at shows on trailer with all its attachments.because of my illness its on ebay now.
