Here is a further update. Correspondence with a tractor historian has concluded that the tractor in the picture is in fact not a Ferguson-Brown but a Fordson type F tractor with a ford engine. This means that it probably dates from around 1924 or 1925 and that the picture was taken then. This fits with the manufacturing of the Fordson F and the report in the Telegraph of experiments with tractors. We know a couple of these “thin lizzies” were still around although not in use, in 1957. What we don’t know is how much use they had before the war.
