Is this the 356/1 carburettor? It may be that the internal cross drillings are becoming blocked and may need an ultrasonic clean to clear them. 4 off spacers from 1.5″ hex bar. The main hex is 3.0725″ long with a 3/4″ BSF thread on one end an additional 1.25″ long and the other end tapped 3/4″ BSF 1.75″ deep.
The side frame is removed and the wheels reversed to the wide position.

It is a strange failure as it appears more like a hydraulic lock failure that you would get from a water cooled engine. There is so much space in the head that with the engine running you would never get that much fuel up the top.

I do not know for sure but I have some NOS Amal 398 carburettors and spares (for Ransomes MG crawlers) which I believe are based on the same arrangement as the 397 but with a horizontal rather than vertical mounting flange.
There should be a spring on the choke lever which should prevent the problems of the choke self closing.

Although the carburettor may need to be a Amal 244/873 it is more likely it should have been a Amal 356/1 and I believe the pump would need to be Amal 150/861A

In general the magneto only needs a little oil and only about every 200 hours so I guess with a vintage machine not that often. Use engine oil and only a few drops required assuming lubricated when serviced.
