1. Remove fuse holder and crank over engine a dozen or so times.<br />
2. Put a small squirt of engine oil (SAE20) in cylinder.<br />
3. Set full throttle and pull knob on side of engine which provides a shot of fuel.<br />

I figure if the spring pushing on the end of cable were stronger it would then be possible to adjust the governor spring to suit. 									<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Finally here’s the view ins the barrel, the end of the throttle cable is visible. Behind the circular washer is a second spring. I reckon it’s this spring which provides the thrust on to the rod and this has weakened so there’s insufficient force to move the governor lever.</p>

Effectively the throttle cable has to push against the governor lever to achieve running speed, when you close the throttle for idle the spring on the governor closes the butterfly.<br />

I’ve found if you engage one of the wheel locks or pawls on one wheel only and then move the handlebars from side to side it often frees up the pin. I do find if you’ve just run the machine for a couple of minutes then there’s a lot more excess fuel than if it’s had a good hour or two of work. Normally after working it’s only a few drops of excess oil and no fuel. So if Knappster is just running the machine for a short time I’d say what he describes is not unusual.</p>

You might try swapping the plugs from the spare machine and seeing if that improves starting. I also found you had to be very careful with the amount of choke and throttle on starting. 									<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Yes, 6% is correct, SAE 30 or 40. Mix should be increased to 8% after engine overhaul. I use SAE 40 in mine, classic oil from the likes of Morris.<br />
Transmission oil should be SAE 140, don’t use EP oil which can attack bronze in gearbox. Again I use a classic type oil.</p>

No, I’m not bothered, except the volume of smoke sometimes outdoes my pipe!<br />
I’ve ploughed some really hard dry land this year in top gear, and had it 2-stroking at length and yes, it smokes less then. I’ve been lucky enough to have prevailing wind blowing across the plot on most occasions, so neighbouring ploughmen are more affected than me! </p>

I’ll just live with it. No point going to the trouble of doing the seal since it also leaks from the wheels as well. She actually runs a treat so I’m not bothered.
