<p>Not in a position to help at the moment as just in the reassemble stage of a similar unit for my cousin.  I am told that the engine was running in my case before it was laid up 5 years ago with a broken rotor.    I will look and see if I can suggest an alternative.</p>

									<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>With regards to the one wheel the Yeoman does not have diff-lock only rigid 0,1 or 2 wheel drive.  If you push the drive engage lever to the second position you get the two wheel drive engaged which would make the unit earlier to use.</p>

									<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Hi  I have stripped and rebuilt a Yeoman &#8211; though I had to replace the Engine as I could not get it to move with 2 tonnes on the piston. The clutch is straightforward single plate on the hearbox, a spider spins the outside attached to the engine.</p>
<p>Support the Engine, undo the nuts and pull to get at the clutch.</p>

I keep a box of Woodruff keys the 150 in a pack type assortment as I am always loosing the small parts and it is not much more to buy the pack than the keys individually</p>

Bought a horse drawn ridger (Howard or Bedford) recently and am pressing parts back into service,  There are wheels and axles on the beast but no bearings in place. Wheels have a tapered bore.  My father in law suggested that there is no bearing and all runs loose, does anyone have any opinion / information?</p>

<p>sorry just assembled the rotor box on mine. The pitch of the join would be the same as the pitch of the links, if you have a Vernier this should give the measurement.  The Yeoman is definitely an imperial size.</p>

<p>I found that with the dog clutch removed a 17mm rounded but socket can be used to lock the PTO shaft.</p>

<p>The gearchain cover gasket is different so will have to cut a new one from cork which luckily I have some cork available</p>

									<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I managed to get the dog off the gear with the help of the oxy acetelane torch.  There is bad pitting on the dog which I will try to repair with metal filler and then turn and polish again. I was trying to avoid the heat and associated annealing but could not find any other method in the end. <p>Got the new seals and bearings.  just need to find a safe method of unscrewing the dog so I can change the oil seal then the basic mechanism can go back together after paint. <p>The gearbox and engine are working well with the riding seat as a towing unit at the moment.  The wheels off the Howard 400 fit well. I am looking for wheel weights  as traction I snot a good as it should be.  Does anyone know if Howard supplied wheel weights for the Howard 400?</p>

Also have  a JAP engine and fuel tank. I have the engine connected and running.  New adaptor plate is in place to connect the riding seat and plough.  Minor adjustments to the clutch and gear selectors now needed. <p>The gearbox and ancillaries are all assembled except the clamp and gear level / cables as the new units arrived yesterday.  About 1/2 way through machining a new engine mounting plate adaptor.  Hope to have this as a running unit before new year now.  Can look at the rotor box afterwards</p>

<p>Not sure about the other members of the club, it is honourable to keep original, but like you I need my machines to work. The ones I have recovered largely have engines beyond economic repair as either rusted up, seized or completely missing. After careful study I can see that the Reverse gear interlock mechanism is completely missing , I suspect that it was removed at some point in the past and lost.  </p>

My Gem has the Kholer Kt17 twin with the luxury of electric start, by coincidence I also have a Clifford mk1 setup with finger mower and largely original.  Last time I used as a rotavator hit a stone and the flywheel span so needed retiming, keep it as a finger mower.</p>

<p>I have a Gem and like you was looking at the idea of using it a two wheeled tractor. The problem is that you have to take a lot of the rotor box off to get a usable tractor unit and then start welding to get a mounting point for implements. <p>I had the same problem solved when I bought some clutch plate offcuts from a specialist supplier in the west midlands and cut the plates myself using a scroll saw and many saw blades.  Suppliers use Waterjet cutting as friction material is abrasive</p>
<p>If you get a drawing you may find that the ransomes mowers use the same sizes</p>
