Adapted it to fit a starting dog and tried it out yesterday.<br />
Success! Got to have a very firm grip on the borer until the Ransomes engine kickers over, but it started first try.<br />
I now feel confident that I can use it to extract logs from my Wood.<br />

Well, I have replaced the Magnito coil. (Thanks to Neil Jarret) After a bit of mucking about I got it to start on Saturday.<br />
Once running, it performed perfectly. No misfires. A nice steady beat. Tick over was slow enough for the clutch to disengage. Acceleration was smooth with no flat spots.<br />

Will an electric motor insulation tester be sufficient? I think they produce about 5,000volts.<br />
Or is a special test rig required?</p>

FlusHed the fuel system and refilled with fresh Petrol.<br />
It s still will not start!<br />
The best I managed was Bang,Bang!<br />
I am running out of ideas.</p>

However, I am a bit confused about the spark advance.<br />
I have found no evidence of bob weights to advance the spark.<br />

On other engines using contact breakers the condensers all had Alluminium casings.<br />
Are replacements available? Also new points.<br />
Or am I better just getting the entire thing reconditioned?</p>

I have a spark, but not as fat as I would like.<br />
Reset the points to 0.015&#8243; and tested again. No change.<br />
But I did notice that the impulse mechanism was reluctant to trigger. It appears to jam against the post and requires considerable force to make it fire.<br />

When starting from cold. 1/2 choke, flood carb, remove HT lead. Open throttle about1/4.<br />
Turn over Twice. Replace HT lead. And give a hard, fast pull on the upstroke.<br />
Hot starting. 1/4 throttle. Pull over.<br />
I think that using full choke was flooding the cylinder.<br />

I am ordering a longer needle from Neil.<br />

Removed the cylinder head and checked both the valve and spark timing.<br />
The valve timing and clearance were spot on. But the ingnition timing was out a couple of degrees.<br />
Reset the timing and rebuilt the engine.<br />

The rebuild is complete. But I can&#8217;t get the engine to start!<br />
I have checked everything.<br />
Valve timing, spark timing, carburettor, fuel pump. Everything I can think of.<br />
I think I am getting ingnition( the exhaust is getting warm). But It won&#8217;t run!<br />
Any help or suggestions!</p>

<p>If I had known you were getting a large batch made I would not have made my own!<br />
I have a Boxford AUD centre lathe. Not really designed for large batch production.<br />
Do you have access to a Turret Lathe?<br />
Also I opted to weld my spindles, rather than threading the ends and using nuts.<br />

Just out of interest, what steel did you use?<br />
I went for the EN24 as it is tough and quite wear resistant, though not cheap! £85.00 for 3 Meters.<br />

Since my last post I have refurbished one set of drive and idle wheels.<br />
Thank god I have a good lathe.<br />
Machining 30 sets of spindles and rollers took a long time.<br />
I used EN24 steel for the rollers and mild steel bright bar for the spindles.<br />
Finished welding last night.<br />

I can make it 4 numbers, though due to a section of the plate having rusted through 1 may be missing.<br />
I have the following&#8211; 7-156.<br />
Also the number 2155 is on the differential gears.<br />
Engine No MGE 6828.<br />
Hope this is correct and helps with the register.</p>

The rollers average about 0.950&#8243;OD and the spindles about 0.560&#8243;OD.<br />
The Olen&#8217;s are VERY loose on the spindles, hard to ensure the bore, but I think about 3/16 to1/4&#8243; clearance.</p>

The track support rollers have been overhauled (I used hard chromed hydraulic ram steel for the spindles and Sintered bronze bushes)<br />

As I have already overhauled the Engine and gearbox I don&#8217;t feel I can abandon this now.<br />
On a brighter note, the differential gearbox and the steering breaks don&#8217;t appear to be in to bad condition.<br />

Mmmm! I have a lot of work and expense ahead.<br />
I don&#8217;t think any oil or grease has been used in the last 20 years.<br />
I am going to have to rethink this project.</p>

									<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Well, after a lot of swearing, use of Fox wedges and pry bars,  I have managed to remove the PTO dog clutch cover. Then all the balls fell out of the bearing!<br />
Mmmm. Well it needed replacing anyway.<br />
Just need to pull the dog from the shaft now.<br />
Next I have to remove the bolts securing the gearbox to the differential casing?<br />
